Qualifying day in Czech Republic delivered tricky conditions with some rain in the morning and at lunch time, which didn’t stop Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Marco Bezzecchi to reach his best ever Qualifying result to date with an impressive sixth fastest lap time.

The Italian Moto2 rookie made the step to Q2 for the second time this year and immediately displayed a very strong performance in order to snatch his initial second row start in the intermediate class.

On the other side of the Red Bull KTM Tech3 garage, Philipp Öttl was fighting to find a decent feeling in the rain and will have to start the Czech Grand Prix from the eleventh row of the grid, starting tomorrow at 12.20 local time.

"Today was very good! In the Free Practice we made one more step, but on my best lap I did two mistakes, that stopped me from improving. But I was confident anyway. Later on, coming from Q1 I was already coming with a bit more experienced with these mixed conditions, so I was able to start fast. Then I wanted to change to slicks, but we didn’t have enough time, so I continued with rain tyres and I went a little bit faster. I’m very happy about this second row, so a huge thank you to my guys! Tomorrow – I hope in the dry – we can gather more experience and we will see where we can end up."

Philipp Öttl

Position: 31st

Time: 2:20.173

"Basically, we have the same issues in the wet and in the dry. I don’t know if we can solve them for tomorrow. I have to say it like it is, today was just bad and we didn’t find any improvement from yesterday. We have to analyze the data now and see if we can find some solutions for tomorrow"
