Strong winds determined today’s proceedings during the first of three days of the final IRTA test before the start of the season for the Red Bull KTM Tech3 duo and the rest of the Moto2 World Championship riders at the Losail International Circuit.

Therefore, both intermediate class rookies, Marco Bezzecchi and Philipp Öttl had to learn the track aboard their brand-new KTM Moto2 machine under quite harsh conditions. While Bezzecchi did 42 laps with a personal best of 2:02.195, Öttl completed 44 laps, registering a fastest time of 2:02.865 minutes.

“Today we made some interesting work. The track condition at the end – apart from the wind – were pretty good and the first riders were very fast. We tried many things with the geometry of the bike, which we already saw in Jerez could help me a bit. Still we have some issues with the front feeling, which is what I miss since the beginning in November. We still work on this, but I could make some good improvements in braking, so I’m quite happy. Anyway, we are still too far from the top, so we need to do more.”

“It has been really windy while I tried to adapt to the new track with the bike. In the beginning, I rode a bit aggressive, but was able to reduce that quickly with my experience from Jerez. I feel like I can change better now, step by step I adapt faster. On my last run, I had the sensation I could have gone faster, but unfortunately, I came across another rider, but apart from that it has been quite good. It’s getting better and better.”
