Just a few days after the last Grand Prix of the 2018 season, the Moto2 World Championship was back on track for the first official 2019 test at the Circuito de Jerez today. Thereby, the newly formed Red Bull KTM Tech3 team was present with the intermediate class rookies Marco Bezzecchi and Philipp Öttl, who both together with their crew got a first taste of the new challenge.

While both highly motivated riders, Bezzecchi and Öttl went faster with each run throughout Friday; the newcomers started their adventure with a lot of work on their seat position and riding style, coming freshly from the Moto3 World Championship. After a damp morning and three further sessions in dry conditions, Bezzecchi concluded his first Moto2 day in 26th overall, while Öttl followed 0.988 seconds behind his new teammate.

Marco Bezzecchi

Position: 26th – Time: 1’44.428 – Laps: 55

Bezzecchi - 2018“This start has been quite good. We worked a lot on the bike because in the beginning the riding position and the balance of the machine were far from now. In the end, we went better and better. Unfortunately the track temperature dropped a lot when we just found our best condition of the day, but anyway, we discovered many important things for tomorrow. I know that I have to improve my riding style a lot, but overall it has been good.”

Philipp Öttl

Position: 29th – Time: 1’45.416 – Laps: 54

Oettl - 2018“Today has been a very interesting day for us. We were learning the bike together with the team and I think in the end of the day, we found a good direction to go to for tomorrow. I was working a lot on my riding style, which I need to adapt to the Moto2 bike, as it is much bigger and a bit heavier than my previous machine. I think we can cope with this and overall, I have a good feeling.”
