Dimas Ekky Pratama did a brave Malaysian Grand Prix today, finishing in 23rd after holding off the challenge of some more experienced Moto2 World Championship riders. The Indonesian, who took over the Mistral 610 of Tech3 Racing in place of the injured Bo Bendsneyder this weekend, made a huge step during a damp Warm Up session already and went into the race with confidence. In the early stages, Pratama already made up five positions after starting in P28 and had a tough race-long fight, which he eventually won.

Tech3 Racing team rider Remy Gardner raced to secure his second best spot on the starting grid in the Malaysian heat today. With an incredible fast time straight out of the garage, the Australian laid down a stunning marker through scorching track conditions and will start the second last race of the season from the front of the second row on Sunday.

On the other side of the garage, Dimas Ekky Pratama improved on his fastest Free Practice time by nearly one second this afternoon. The Indonesian, who replaces Bo Bendsneyder this weekend, had some tough lessons to learn in tricky conditions during FP3 and Qualifying today, but mastered his task well to start the Malaysian GP from the eighth row tomorrow at 13.20 local time (6.20 CET).

Remy Gardner

Position: 4th Time: 2’06.347 – Laps: 14

Remy Gardner“Today has been a very positive day. I did a really first lap on the first exit of Qualifying, luckily, because then the track went hotter and it was a lot more greasy towards the end. Also the tyres only lasted for one lap. I managed to put a pretty decent lap together in the first lap and we were sitting in P3 for a while all the way until the last two minutes. We put in a new set of tyres again and I tried, but it was just really difficult out there. Quartararo did a good job to pass me in these conditions. We were close to parc fermé, but not in, anyway, I don’t think it’s going to change a lot for tomorrow. We still need to work on our race pace in the Warm up, but I’m happy.”

Dimas Ekky Pratama

Position: 28th – Time: 2’08.769 – Laps: 14

Bo Bendsneyder“In Qualifying we improved our time and also the setting of the bike. I tried to stay with some fast riders to try to understand and to improve more, but unfortunately I wanted too much and did a mistake in turn five. I lost the front crashed and then I picked up the bike again, returned to the pit box and luckily the mechanics could fix it quickly. On my second exit I tried to stay with a group again, but I didn’t find them on track. So I did everything alone, worked on my understanding of the bike and the setting. In the end, I think it will be interesting tomorrow. I will push hard for sure, aim to stay with the guys in front of me, do my best and finish the race.

Mixed weather conditions determined the opening day at the Sepang International Circuit, which saw Tech3 Racing team‘s Remy Gardner performing very strong. The fast Australian got off a great start in FP1 this morning and improved significantly during the second session to conclude day one just 0.716 seconds behind the top in P9.

On the other side of the garage, Bo Bendsneyder‘s replacement rider Dimas Ekky Pratama got a first taste of the Malaysian circuit aboard the French team‘s Mistral 610. The Indonesian did well to lower his lap time by incredible 1.933 seconds from the first to the second Free Practice and is eager to go even faster in FP3 tomorrow at 9.55 local time (2.55 CET).

Remy Gardner

Position: 9th – Time: 2’07.644 – Laps: 33

Remy Gardner“It has been a pretty good day here. This morning it was still patchy when we went out, but we put the slick in when there was still some water on track and we ended up seventh, which was quite decent. Before FP2 it was raining, so everyone went out with wet tyres and of course we did the same, but the track was completely dry after it dried up in just some seconds. We came back in, put some old slicks back in, did a run and improved on our time from this morning. At the end, we put in the soft tyre and made a big step forward. We still need a bigger jump for tomorrow, but I think we’re on the right track after a good start. We just have to see how the weather plays out.”

Dimas Ekky Pratama

Position: 28th – Time: 2’09.665 – Laps: 30

Bo Bendsneyder“I had a good experience with the Tech3 Racing team today. The Mistral 610 is a different bike than I use in the FIM CEV, which is a huge challenge. In FP1 we found tricky conditions, as it was half wet and half dry, but anyway, I tried to adapt as quick as possible. I thought, I needed to improve something, which I tried in FP2 later and it worked out. Anyway, I think, we still have some work to do and I need to work on some other things tomorrow. I think I will enjoy it and make another step for the third practice on Saturday and the Qualifying later.
