Remy Gardner was able to build some confidence in FP2 this afternoon at the amazing Phillip Island circuit, after he didn’t get the home Grand Prix start he was hoping for this morning. Since the Tech3 Racing team rider crashed on his second lap of the first session, but luckily escaped with no severe harm and was back on the bike this afternoon.

On the other side of the garage, Bryan Staring, who replaces injured Bo Bendsneyder this weekend, delivered a strong start riding a Moto2 machine for the first time in his life this morning. The Australian did well to improve consistently during the first Free Practice, but unluckily got caught out early in FP2. However, Staring came away with some bruises, though he stays confident ahead of day two.

Remy GardnerI had a massive crash in FP1, which wasn’t fun and definitely knocked some confidence out of me. But we got back for FP2, where I just felt a bit stiff on the bike. Hopefully tonight it’s healing up a bit more and I’m definitely coming back tomorrow attacking. I feel we just need to get back and keep working towards the race.”

Bo BendsneyderUnfortunately I did only three laps in FP2, but from this morning, we had a very positive session. I think we didn’t set the world on fire with the lap time, but I got to learn a lot about the bike and initial feelings on how to ride it. I’m sure we would have taken a good step forward in Free Practice two, but we didn’t get the opportunity. So, hopefully the bike is not too damaged and I don’t wake up too sore tomorrow, so I think we can still have a good weekend.
