With a superb start, Tech3 Racing team’s Remy Gardner made up eight positions on the first lap of the first ever Thailand Grand Prix today. In scorching conditions he managed to deliver a strong battle for 24 hot laps, eventually finishing in 12tha nd taking home four important points.

Following a strong Warm Up this morning, Bo Bendsneyder was on fire at the Chang International Circuit today. In the course of the race he passed one rival after another, showing a very fast and consistent pace to finally bring home the first two points of the season whilst finishing 14th.

Remy Gardner

Position: 12th – Championship: 17th – Points: 28

Gardner - 2018"This has been a very, very tough race today. It was very difficult, super hot out there. I made an amazing first lap, just played it very smart in turn three. Everyone just went in there way to hot and I just straight around the inside, so the first lap was pretty impressive. We knew that we were going to struggle here in terms of race pace, I just tried really hard and was wasting a lot of energy as well in the first seven, eight laps in trying to stay with Locatelli, but I just couldn’t as I was losing too much on the straight. It was tough and in the end I was sliding a lot, but I think we saved it this weekend. At least we got a couple of points, came home with a respectable result. We definitely need to rethink for the next round, regarding setting and also riding style and hopefully we can have some more strong races.

Bo Bendsneyder

Position: 14th – Championship: 27th – Points: 2

Bendsneyder - 2018“I’m really happy about the race! In the beginning I struggled bit to overtake two or three riders, so I lost a lot of time, but the guys gave me a great bike for doing consistent lap times and pushing every time. We were catching the guys who were fighting for the top 12 and finally I arrived 14th, just a bit over two seconds behind my teammate. I had to come from far, but I never gave up, kept pushing and finally we achieved the points. Now we need to look for the next race to focus a lot for Qualifying to be not that much in traffic for the first laps. Anyway, I want to thank the guys that work for me and the whole team. We work so hard all season, which is a difficult one, but now it paid off. I’m happy with it and am looking forward to the next race.”

“From the beginning of the week, we’ve been very, very happy in Thailand – a great country, great people, great organization, super circuit, but our cherry on the cake was a really strong Moto2 race. Remy Gardner got an incredible start, managed to stay in a very strong position, fighting with Xavi and I think they remembered the good old days when they were teammates. Finally, he brought it to 12thposition and got four important points. It was a tough race with the heat, but clearly, Remy the second part of the year is really strong, focused, working hard, learning and understanding and I’m very proud of him. This is a great 50 percent of the team, but the other part did a super job. I would like to congratulate Bo for his first points of the year. It was a very tough season for him, we know the potential of this young guy. He is not only a charming guy, but also a fast rider, although it was for him maybe a bit more difficult than what he was expecting. His start was not ideal, but his pace was unbelievable. I think in the second part of the race he had the pace for the top 10. Anyway, we have two riders in the points, Remy four points and Bo with two. I’m very, very happy for the entire team, as the whole Moto2 team worked really hard. Of course, I’m happy for Remy, but I would say I’m even happier for Bo, because when you are that close to the points every single race and this is round 15, you feel you will never touch the points, but now he got it and I hope he’s going to get plenty more before the end of the year. Thanks to everybody!”

Tech3 Racing team’s Remy Gardner showed an impressive improvement on Saturday at the newly added Chang International Circuit, finding 1.445 seconds from FP1 to the hot Qualifying this afternoon. The fast Australian eventually finished just 0.559 seconds from the top in P18 of the ultra-competitive intermediate class field.

However, Bo Bendsneyder made huge steps as well, going 1.143 seconds faster during Qualifying than yesterday morning. He’ll attack the 15th round of the 2018 Moto2 World Championship season from the eighth row, when the red lights turn black tomorrow at 12.20 local time (8.20 CET).

Remy Gardner

Position: 18th - Time: 1’36.933 - Laps: 17

Remy GardnerI’m not ecstatic with the position on the grid, for sure this going to make our life a little bit more hard tomorrow. I mean, I believe I rode pretty well in Qualifying. It’s very close times and I feel quite strong in the corners, to be honest. I think we can still have a good race tomorrow, we need a little bit of luck in the first corners and then it can be a really fun race. I’m just missing a bit straight line speed, but I think we figured a few things out, so I’m confident for tomorrow.

Bo Bendsneyder

Position23rd - Time: 1’37.474 - Laps: 20

Bo BendsneyderI think we made a good step in Qualifying, especially with the pace we had. Also with used tyres I can to the 37’s, so I was happy about it. Plus, I did it alone with a good pace. It’s still hard to make this one good lap, as for my feeling I didn’t have the perfect one and I made some mistakes. On the last lap I tried to improve; the first sector was better, the second sector was similar to the lap before and in the third sector I tried to shift to third gear, but it didn’t want to go in. I believe I can be 0.1 or 0.2 seconds faster, but overall with the feeling I’m quite happy, so I’m looking forward to the race, which will be long. Let’s see if we can fight for a good place tomorrow.

The Tech3 Racing duo had their very first outing at the newly added venue in Thailand today. Thereby, both, Remy Gardner and Bo Bendsneyder where able to improve from FP1 to FP2, plus collected many data in order to work well towards the 15th race of the season in Buriram on Sunday.

While Gardner concluded day on in P20, just 1.042 seconds from the top, Bendsneyder ended up 24th, only 0.304 seconds behind his teammate. However, the Tech3 Racing pair can’t wait for the third Free Practice session taking place 10.55 local time (5.55 CET) tomorrow to do even more laps on the new circuit and improve further.

Remy Gardner

Position: 20th - Time: 1’37.881 - Laps: 39

Remy GardnerInteresting day here at Buriram, Thailand. I like the track, it’s good fun. We didn’t end up where we’d like to be, but I still feel we can be quite strong this weekend. We have a few things to sort out, but I’m ready to give everything tomorrow. Hopefully we can solve some things and be there on Saturday. We’ll see.

Bo Bendsneyder

Position24th - Time: 1’38.185 - Laps: 44

Bo BendsneyderThe track is nice, it’s close with the lap times, but I think that’s because the circuit itself isn’t the most difficult one on the calendar. It’s great to ride, just a bit hot. I think we are not so far from the points. We need to improve just for this one lap and the bike felt a bit stiff, so we want to find a bit easier bike for riding here. My lap time isn’t so bad, but we also need to improve on the pace. So we’ll try to have the bike we need for tomorrow in order to get closer to the top.
