The Tech3 Racing duo Bo Bendsneyder and Remy Gardner initiated the seventh round of the 2018 Moto2 World Championship at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya cautiously today. While Bendsneyder finished day one only half a second behind the top 15, Gardner was sitting on his Mistral 610 again, just six weeks after his heavy training accident, ready to fight his way back. Following 37 intense laps the Australian found himself only 0.401 seconds behind his teammate.

Bo Bendsneyder

Position: 27th - Time: 1’45.381 - Laps: 40

Bo Bendsneyder“We made a good step in FP2, even if it was a bit hotter than in FP1 and most of the guys were struggling a little bit. Still, we improved the lap time and have been consistent. Just when we put the softer tyre in, we didn’t expect to get pushing from the rear and that we found more grip than with the harder tyre, so for tomorrow we need to focus on finding a good setup with the number three and I think then we can make another step. We are just one second from the top, it’s very close, but I don’t want to miss it again in Qualifying, therefore, now we have to focus on FP3 in order to be ready for Qualifying.”

Hector GarzoThis was a pretty difficult day one. To be honest, I expected to be a bit faster, but everyone stepped up since I’ve been away. One second off before and you were in the top 20, one second now and you’re 22nd. I still have a bit of pain in my legs and was suffering at the end of the sessions with my fitness obviously. I guess this gives me a long weekend, but anyway, it’s good to be back and to be riding again. I think it was a good decision to return and starting the process of getting back on it. At the moment I just need more time, more laps and we just keep working for Sunday.
