For the French team’s home round in Le Mans, Bo Bendsneyder arrived on the grid with some extra motivation to do well. Starting from the seventh row, the Moto2 rookie made up positions step by step and did some good lap times towards the second half of the race to eventually miss out on his first point narrowly, finishing in 16th place.

Hector Garzo, who jumped in again in place of Remy Gardner this weekend, delivered some solid first laps and found himself in 24th position early on after starting from P27 on the grid. Yet, the young Spaniard got penalized for a jump start and had to ride through the pit lane, whereby he lost his rhythm, which led to an unfortunate early end of his race.

Gardner - 2018Finally, it’s not the result that we wanted. We need to fight for the points and in the end, we came out again with zero points. Apart from this I think we gathered some good information to try for tomorrow’s test. We want to try to make another step on Monday here, as I think this is very important before we go to Mugello to find something more. I want to thank my team for everything.”

Bendsneyder - 2018It’s a shame for the ride trough. I was trying to do a good race and to catch my team mate, as I think our rhythm was quite similar. I think I could have finished close to the points scoring positions, but I can’t do anything. To ride alone after the penalty was really difficult. I tried to do some good lap times to catch up again, but I tried too hard and I crashed. I’m truly sorry for the team, for my sponsors and I can promise that I learned from it.”

Team Manager

I think we could almost take the post-race press release of Jerez to do the French GP, because Bo ended up 16th, being fast the second part of the race and in Le Mans, we finished 16th, being fast the second part of the race. I can’t hide my disappointment, because I truly believe we have a package that is stronger than what the current results are showing. We saw earlier this season with Remy, that we have a bike that is capable to fight at least for the top 10 and we are now in round five without any point from Bo, which is something I can not explain. Everybody has got to wake up and push harder from day one. On the other side of the garage, I think Hector did a much better race and showed a much stronger performance than in Jerez. He understands the bike and knows how to prepare a Moto2 World Championship weekend much better. It’s a shame we got this jump start penalty, because he was doing a good lap time and it would have been interesting for him to finish the race, fighting with the group he was in. Anyway, he is a rookie, it was only the second race this year, the crash was unfortunate, but can happen and at the end of the day, I think he did an ok performance. Let’s see what is going to happen for the next weekend in Mugello, but clearly, I really believe we should and we have to do better. I hope everybody will think about it and come back with a different attitude and more fighting spirit.”
