The Tech3 Racing Team duo performed in a brave manner at the Circuit of the Americas today. Remy Gardner and Bo Bendsneyder previously have never had a taste of the ultra-demanding track and therefore had to work hard during the weekend in order to get to know the best lines and find a decent setup for their Mistral 610 machines.

Following some strong opening laps, Gardner ultimately showed a brave fight during the 18 laps competition to see the chequered flag in 17th. Meanwhile, Bendsneyder slashed his way from 23rd to eventually arrive inside the top 20. Both, Gardner and Bendsneyder look forward to commence the European season in less than two weeks’ time in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

Remy Gardner

Position: 17th – Championship: 12th – Points: 14

Gardner - 2018““I can’t say that I’m ecstatic over this race, as I really wanted to bring home some points. It would have been nice to conclude three flyaways with points in each. We knew that we were coming to this track with a disadvantage and I feel that we’ve made very good progression from FP1 on Friday, so I think we worked pretty well all weekend. In the race, I could have probably had the pace to run in the points group, but there was a couple of times that a rider passed me, another one touched me, so I was dropping places really fast. When I was on my own, I kind of re-gathered myself a little bit and had a decent pace. The gap to the leaders is quite positive, anyway, I’m a little bit disappointed to lose out on the points, but we worked really well this weekend. I think we should take all the positives to Jerez.”

Bo Bendsneyder

Position: 20th – Championship: 24th – Points: -

Bendsneyder - 2018“Finally, I felt quite well with the bike, just during the last few laps my left hand was destroyed, I had no power anymore and wasn’t comfortable riding anymore. We need to work on some points, but I think we already made a step. Therefore, I can’t wait to arrive back in Europe and start the next round in Spain.”

Hervé PONCHARAL

Team Manager

“It’s the end of the three flyaway races here and it’s been a good three rounds for the Tech3 Moto2 team. Remy clearly showed that he is the leader of our Moto2 team this year and scored points in Qatar, big points in Argentina, but unfortunately here he couldn’t be in the top 15, although he did a strong race and was very close. Bo is honestly struggling more than what we were expecting when we saw the winter tests, that were really good in terms of fast laps, but also consistency and race pace. We don’t really understand why, but we want to give him time, because he’s a newcomer to this category and is young, so hopefully back in Europe he will be stronger. We go back to Europe, where it will be easier to work for the whole paddock and hopefully we can have our two riders closer than where they are now and both in the points - this is the target. thanks to the riders, thanks to the team. It has been tough three races, so let’s go back home now, getting a few days rest and meet everyone again with a big smile on our face in beautiful Andalusia.”

Following a tough start into the third race weekend of the 2018 season, Remy Gardner and Bo Bendsneyder managed to find some improvements in Free Practice 3 and Qualifying on Saturday. Gardner, who didn’t start the Americas Grand Prix in 2017, did some positive steps today and lowered his lap time from FP1 by more than two seconds this afternoon. Likewise, Moto2 rookie Bendsneyder found a quicker way around the demanding Circuit of the Americas aboard his Mistral 610 to conclude the second day just 0.596 seconds behind his team mate and will start the race at 12:20 local time on Sunday from the eighth row of the grid.

Remy Gardner

Position: 18th - Time: 2'11.593 - Laps: 15

Remy Gardner “It’s been quite tough, we’re down in 18th at the moment. We knew we were coming here with a disadvantage, as I didn’t do this round here last year with the Moto2. I think it’s due to the track, me and also I’m still not too comfortable with the bike yet, which is the combination letting us down a bit. I actually didn’t expect to do this qualifying lap time, so I’m quite happy I could pull it out on the last lap. This track is quite hard, not really forgiving mistakes, but anyway we made another step and hopefully we can do another one for tomorrow’s race.”

Bo Bendsneyder

Position: 23rd - Time: 2'12.189 - Laps: 17

Bo Bendsneyder“It has been a difficult day, I think we made a good step, but everybody did this, therefore, we’re still in the same position. But in my opinion our rhythm is pretty good, so we’ll see what will happen during the 18 laps here. We start from quite far, yet we hope to have a great race on Sunday.”

The Tech3 Racing duo got off a tricky start for the third round of 2018. While Remy Gardner was trying to find a good line around the Circuit of the Americas, Bo Bendsneyder did his first Moto2 laps around the demanding track aboard the Mistral 610. The talented Australian eventually missed out on the top by 1.649 seconds, while Bendsneyder followed just 0.495 seconds behind his team mate. Both aim to lower their respective lap times on Saturday, starting with FP3 10.55 local time.

Remy Gardner

Position: 23rd - Time: 2’12.753 - Laps: 31

Remy Gardner “I’m pretty disappointed with today, because I was expecting a lot more. I’m really struggling with this track, which we knew before, but I didn’t expect this much. I still need to find my way around here, but we also need a bit more from the bike. In Fp2 I crashed by the end of the session, which was not really helping the situation. I’m definitely pushing, but hopefully we’ll find a better compromise for tomorrow to be ready for the race on Sunday.”

Bo Bendsneyder

Position: 25th - Time: 248 - Laps: 34

Bo Bendsneyder“The practice was quite good, I think we did a good job to do many laps here. I just did a small mistake in FP2, but after that I still had the confidence to do the same lap time like I did before. There’s still some work to do. Let’s wait and see for tomorrow, if the weather stays the same or it will be wet. I look forward to tomorrow and I hope that we can improve and make a good step.”
