Tech3 Racing Team rider Xavi Vierge worked non stop to improve the feeling of his Mistral 610 to conclude the opening day at Motegi in a positive way. The young Spaniard made steps forward in both sessions, before finishing FP2 in 12th, and he confidently awaits the second day of action where he aims to seal a solid qualifying position.

Meanwhile, Remy Gardner battled the treacherous conditions as he made an encouraging start to proceedings in Japan. The Australian closed FP2 in 17th and is fully prepared to make another step forward in FP3 tomorrow, which begins at 10:55 local time or 03:55 in central Europe, ahead of the all-important qualifying shootout.

Position: 12th - Time: 2'07.278 - Laps: 15

Vierge - 2017“It was a hard first day in the rain, but we finally found some solutions. Normally in the wet conditions, I am comfortable but at this track, the rear grip was a little bit tricky. So I worked in both sessions to try to find a positive feeling. Eventually, we made some progress and although it’s not perfect, we made a definite improvement and I am happy for this. Tomorrow I think it will rain again so we will continue working in order to have a solid session.“

Remy Gardner

Position: 17th - Time: 2'07.724 - Laps: 18

Gardner - 2017“It was very wet today and it looks like it’s going to be this way for all three days. Therefore, it was important to discover a good setting and understand the conditions early on in the weekend. Overall, I would say that it was quite a positive day but we need more. We’re still looking for that extra edge but hopefully, we can come back tomorrow and have an awesome qualifying session."
