Xavi Vierge will commence the San Marino GP from the rear of the fifth row of the grid after a confidence boosting outing this afternoon. The rapid young Spaniard and his Tech3 crew made some key changes in-between FP3 and qualifying, which allowed him to complete the shootout only 0.491 back from the front row. Tomorrow he seeks to bring his Mistral 610 home in a solid point scoring position in the 26 lap sprint which begins at 12:20 local time.

Meanwhile, Remy Gardner will begin the 13th round from head of the eighth row after finishing just 0.371 back from his teammate. With wet weather expected tomorrow, the young Australian aims to take advantage of the conditions and close the weekend inside the points.

Xavi Vierge

Position: 15th - Time: 1'38.214 - Laps: 21

Vierge - 2017“I am happy with today’s performance, especially as this track was one of the most challenging for the team and I last year, and it started like that this again. In FP3, I had a few issues but during the time in-between the practice and the qualifying, I worked a lot with my crew to understand the situation and we made a really good step forward. This was particularly regarding the race pace which is the most important thing. Now we need to study the data and try to make a bit more progress for tomorrow. However, I am satisfied because the improvement that we made between the sessions today was big, so thanks to the team and let's see what we can do in the race.“

Remy Gardner

Position: 22nd - Time: 1'38.585 - Laps: 17

Gardner - 2017“In qualifying, I rode my best time of the weekend but it wasn’t enough and we are surprised by how fast the pace is, yet I certainly feel that this lap was one of the best that I could have done at the moment. For tomorrow, we still have some work to do but we definitely need to keep focusing on the setup in order to extract a bit more from the bike. Anyway, because of the speed of the other riders in qualifying, we will have to come prepared for race day. If it rains, then for sure, I feel that we will have a better chance, when you consider how we performed in the Czech Republic. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for wet conditions, but if it stays dry then I still think that we can have a decent time."
