Remy Gardner produced a solid performance in the Italian GP qualifying shootout to seize a notable fourth row start for the 21-lap sprint. The young Australian got on the pace immediately but an unfortunate crash late on in the session halted any further progress. Nevertheless, tomorrow he will seek to seize his first championship points of the year aboard the Mistral 610.

Meanwhile, Xavi Vierge endured a challenging day whereby he suffered a fall at the 12th turn in the early stages of the afternoon session. The young Spaniard was then taken to the medical centre but escaped without any major injuries. His personal best, which he set on his second lap, put him in 22nd on the grid and tomorrow he will seek to bounce back from the tricky affair today.

Remy Gardner

Position: 11th - Time: 1'52.592 - Laps: 15

Gardner - 2017“I am happy with the overall result even though the qualifying ended in a disappointing way due to the crash. I feel like I have found myself on the bike this weekend and my ankle is healing up a lot better which is really positive. I fell at the end of the session because I was pushing too hard and I knew that I could achieve a better time so I was just trying. My bike may not be in such a great shape, but I’m ok which is good news for tomorrow. It’s a shame that I couldn’t improve because I really thought that I could crack the top ten, but anyway, the main event is to come and I’m sure that we can bring the Mistral home in a decent position."

Xavi Vierge

Position: 22nd - Time: 1'53.148 - Laps: 2

Vierge - 2017“It was a big shame to crash in the qualifying, but the most important thing is that I’m ok to race tomorrow. We had a positive time in FP3 where I finished 6th, and so things were looking good for this afternoon. The team and I found some solutions to the issues that we experienced yesterday and I thought that I could at least try to get into the top ten. Anyway, the crash happened early on in the session and I had to go to the medical centre to get checked. Fortunately, I have no injuries so I will get back on the bike tomorrow and do my absolute best to try and get something back in the GP."
