Tech3 Racing Team rider Remy Gardner conducted a positive performance at the breathtaking Mugello circuit to end up in 14th at the close of day one. The young Australian’s personal best saw him finish just over a second from the front as he confidently aims to continue his progress tomorrow. Whilst Xavi Vierge produced a tireless effort at the meandering track to end up only 0.173 behind his teammate. Both riders keenly await the qualifying shootout tomorrow where they will fight for two strong grid positions for Sunday’s race.

Remy Gardner

Position: 14th - Time: 1'53.339 - Laps: 17

Gardner - 2017“Today was pretty positive for me. In FP1 we had a few issues but we sorted them out which is obviously pleasing. Then in the afternoon, things went well and we made an improvement, plus we used the softer tyre, which allowed me to make a big jump forward in my lap time. The team also made another good adjustment which helped again, but during my last lap, I was quick in the first two sectors yet unfortunately, Syahrin held me up in T3. If this didn’t happen then I’m sure that I would have been only 0.7 of a second from first. Anyway, it was not qualifying so we can look forward to tomorrow and let's see what happens."

Xavi Vierge

Position: 17th - Time: 1'53.467 - Laps: 15

Vierge - 2017“It was a challenging first day but I believe in the team who are already working hard in preparation for tomorrow. However, I am partly pleased because last year this circuit was really tricky for me, but today I felt more confident and I certainly made a step forward. It goes without saying that if we do a good job tonight then we can get back to where we want to be tomorrow and I’m certain that we can achieve this. I have to say thanks to the team and I am determined for the next session."
